Champ Hayden Is Impressing Everyone On The Floor And Setting An Example For Others Off The Floor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A young man at a Salisbury high school is impressing everyone with his basketball skills on the high school hardwoods, but also setting an example for others.

“When I got in the 8th grade, I tried out for the team, made the team. I did not get much playing time and seeing other people playing, it made me want to get better,” Champ Hayden said.

And that is exactly what Champ Hayden has done. The senior, playing for North Hills Christian School, has established himself as one of the best players in North Carolina, averaging double figures in both scoring and rebounding. Hayden knows being the best means always looking to improve.

“I don’t take anything for granted. Where I am at, I am thankful, but I can always get better,” Champ said.

It is a lesson taught to him by this father, who has been on this journey with his son since day one.

“It starts at home. Chores, I mean just the basic fundamentals of life and he just carries it on. I am just proud of him,” Champs’ dad Roy Hayden said.

“It is really my dad, you know what I am saying, he just pushed me so much. I would never think I would get to where I am at no,” Champ said.

He always believed in me, and he just made sure the people around me, my family believe in me so that just helped me believe in myself.”

“It is just a beautiful thing at the end of the day,” Roy said.
