The Weddington Softball Team Is Willing To Do Whatever It Takes For A Championship

The state playoffs for high school girls softball are down to the elite 8 and the Lady Warriors of Weddington are willing to do whatever it takes to win a championship. Bahakel Sports Director Jeff Taylor took a deep dive to find their secret for success this season.

“This season we started off with some really good momentum. We were 10-0 and this season I feel like we just really came together as a team,” said senior Abby Peisker.

The glue that has held this team together during the regular season and the playoffs so far is three simple, aforementioned words, “whatever it takes.” It has been the focus of head coach Clair Lyerly ever since she took over the program, and the girls certainly buy into it.

“Actually all four years here, Coach Lyerly’s motto has been whatever it takes and it really hits hard this season and the chance of us making it all the way to states. We have to be willing to do whatever it takes to get there,” stated Weddington senior Madelyn Miller.

Along with the motto, the Lady Warriors also know the importance of their seniors and what they bring to the team.

“They’re definitely important. we were able to understand the game better from them and learned a lot over the last season,” said sophomore Joella Thomas

Peisker stated, “Me and two other seniors are committed so we are using that as momentum. we know that we s till have more time to play this game once we get to college so it has beef fun for us to get to play and we have been able to show by example.”
