Local Athletes Showcase Their Skills At Football City USA

As the dog days of summer start to pick up, high school football teams across the Carolinas are already preparing for Friday nights in the fall. You don’t have to go far to find teams on the field and in the weight room. The Northwestern Trojans are one of the most storied programs in the area, a name that carries weight before the season even starts. The annual air raid seven on seven tournament is synonymous with the beginning of summer ball in South Carolina. Independence High School Head Coach DJ McFadden and the Patriots were one of two North Carolina teams invited. That invitation comes with expectations.

“It’s crazy because when I was in high school we came to this tournament every year so when i got the head job, I kind of already knew about it. We’ve been doing it for years. I think there was just a need for it in our area. We’re trying to get the best teams we can and not everybody gets invited. It’s not an open invitation, it’s an invite only tournament and we were proud of it. We think we think it’s one of the best tournaments around,” said two of the coaches in attendance.

As the skill players go head to head, the emphasis is on intensity making for plenty of good reps. It’s also a catalyst for team bonding and competition breeds just that. See more high school on the Bahakel Sports replays section.
