A Local High School Found A Place To Practice Football With The Help Of A NASCAR Team
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It is the dog days of summer and for high school athletes in the Queen City, that means early morning hours at their school to work out on the field and in the weight room.
But that is not the case for the students of Ambassador Christian, a new school opening in August.
Those hours are spent at Joe Gibbs Racing, which has opened its doors so these athletes can be ready for the fall season.
“I think Joe Gibbs Racing, we are very fortunate to have a place like this to be able to work out, to get better in their weight room, on their turf field, as we don’t have one yet,” Lions junior Ben Majors said. “This is a very good place to get better for this football year coming up.”
For the Lions head football coach, Jay Poag, he also understands what a great opportunity this is for his team to get ready to compete.
“We could not be more appreciative for the partnership we have here with Joe Gibbs Racing,” Poag said. “It is really cool for our kids to be able to come in here and be in a professional style setting. They have been super, super encouraging with our efforts.”
One of the founders of Ambassador Christian is Melissa Gibbs, daughter-in-law of Joe Gibbs. Joe is proud to be a part of helping Melissa get this school and its athletes ready for the fall season.
“I think they are off to a great start. They have great people, they volunteer, they come in to coach and everything else,” Joe Gibbs said. “And so it is Melissa and God who are going to do that thin. So, it is really, really important to us as a family too.”
