NASCAR Hall Of Fame Reveals Petty Inspired Piece Of History

NASCAR is celebrating 75 years of racing. It is a sports rich in history and a big part of that history is the Petty family. Richard petty is the patriarch of that family and on Monday July 8th, the NASCAR Hall of fame unveiled something that all NASCAR fans know represents the king. Petty is known in NASCAR for so many things. 200 wins, seven championships to go along with seven Daytona 500 victories but for most race fans and even those who don’t know the sport, the king is known for one thing, the hat.

Whether he is at the track, in a TV studio or at the NASCAR Hall Of Fame, you rarely catch petty without a cowboy hat. Monday, the NASCAR Hall of Fame reminded everyone of that with the unveiling of a one of a kind, six foot tall hat. For the king, this hat is about one thing and that is the entire Petty family legacy.

“It is about the petty family, all seventy five years. My dad started this is 1949 when NASCAR first started the Cup Series and we have been in it ever since.”

This hat shows some of those moments. This cowboy hat was specially designed with images that reflect the deep connection between the Pettys, NASCAR and the Hall of Fame.

“I was just looking at some of them, you look at it and you look at things that have happened in the past and you say, man I was glad I was there.”

For the entire Petty family, they know their legacy will live on through this iconic piece of art.

“It is our family, it is our family in photographs. We just happened to do what we did in a public domain where people saw it”
