The White Family That Races Together Stays Together

One of the events local race fans look forward to during these hot summer months is the summer shootout series at Charlotte Motor Speedway. While most of the drivers competing on Tuesday nights are from the Carolinas, there are a few that make the long trip to go short track racing. Like most, the White family takes some time to travel in the summer. Unlike most families who take vacations, the Whites, from Lakeland, Florida go racing.

“My dad grew up doing this with my brother. We started in ’05 and once his son turned six, we wanted to go racing a here we are.”

Cameron White, a racer himself, is the uncle to Gerald White III, otherwise known as Trey. This young man who just turned nine has been racing since he was six and is hooked.

“When I was six then I said dad I want to race so we got in a champ car and I just started wheeling around.”

The Whites spend their summer in their RV traveling the south so Cameron and Trey can race in events like the summer shootout at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Quite honestly this is my favorite event of the year. Josh Williams help prepares these cars. We grew up racing with him in Florida so it is like a full circle come around, this is my favorite event of the year.”

Gerald, even at the age of nine, knows that driving for Josh Williams Motorsports during this event is a big plus.

“He means a lot because he is a NASCAR Xfinity driver and he just got into Kaulig. He just helps with car so much, I just cannot thank him enough.”

“So working with Trey you know the last year has been super fun and he is super talented. I mean I have worked with a lot of kids over the years and he is probably by far one of the best I have ever seen.”
