Butler Girl’s Basketball Coach Mark Sanders Speaks On The Influence Of Coaching
CHARLOTTE,N.C. – For Butler girls head basketball coach Mark Sanders, knowing the influence of coaches began in his childhood. Jeff Taylor sat down with Sanders to learn more about how his youthful years has impacted his coaching skills today.
“I played pop warner and had my pop warner coaches that know i did not have alot, drove by the house to pick me up. for the most part they kind of took care of you. so they were kind of a father figure for us.”
“It was that influence at an early age that put the idea of coaching into sanders mind. and for butler high school, it has offered them a man who has been there since the school began in 1997 and a coach who loves what he does, which includes not only coaching girls basketball, but also football and track.”
“Here at butler as far as being a head coach, you know the principal and the athletic director, if you have a good principal and a good athletic director you can be a school for 27 years and be successful.”
In that 27 years of coaching at Butler high school, Sanders has remained a positive role model to all the students he has coached and more. At the end of the day, however, Sanders says it is about more than just winning, it is about the relationships he has built that last past high school.
“A lot of times when they come back and they reach out to you, they talk to you, you know it puts a smile on your face, you know they come back and say thank you and they tell you their story”
