Carolina Panthers Launch Reading Program, Sir Purr’s Pawesome Readers

You see him on Sundays and you love his antics but parents have another reason to smile at Sir Purr. The Carolina Panthers, Bank of America, and Charlotte Mecklenburg schools came together at a local elementary school to kick off Sir Purr’s Paw-some Readers. Four hundred students from half a dozen schools gathered at Thomasboro Academy as the rafters were filled with excitement while they awaited their special guest. Sir Purr was on hand as the Panthers launched a new program to help students with their reading skills.

Sir Purr’s Pawesome Readers is a semester long program that focuses on getting students to read twenty minutes a day. Third down is crucial in football, just like third grade is a crucial year for literacy. It is important for the kids to see the adults in their lives having fun as well while they are also stressing the importance of things that will help them be successful later on in life like reading. That energy is infectious, making it impossible not to get involved.
