The Winthrop Lady Eagles Are Chasing Excellence Led By Their New Head Coach, Kendall Fuller
One of the softball teams to keep your eye on this season is the Lady Eagles from Winthrop. The team, which plays in the tough Big South conference, has a lot of players from last years team, but a new coach at the helm. Bahakel Sports Director, Jeff Taylor caught up with the Lady Eagles and their new coach.
“You know we are a new coaching staff coming in and it is about getting comfortable with each other. Just chasing excellence and that is what we have been chasing the whole time. It is being the best version of you,” said Kendall Fuller.
For the new softball head coach at Winthrop, being the best version of you is hard work and effort in every practice and game.
“She really has a lot of passion for the game. She wants us to win and she wants us to do our best so we come out here every day and work hard and she works hard. I think it is a good dynamic,” said Winthrop junior, Reese Basinger. “We play as a family and we are all very close teammates and we win for each other. Instilling that in all of us has made us work hard together. We always pick each other up during the hard times,” said senior, Paige Rivas.
While there is a new coach at the helm for the Lady Eagles, Coach Fuller has leaned on the seniors early on this season for leadership both on and off the diamond.
“The leadership from the senior class has been fantastic, they step up. We have had quite a few walk off wins to start the season, it gets your heart beating fast. They never give up and i think that is a testament to who they are.”
