What To Watch For During Panther’s Training Camp
CHARLOTTE, NC – Over the weekend the newest class of Carolina panthers arrived at Wofford College to prepare for their first ever training camp, with the rest of the team set to join them on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
It is music to the ears of panthers fans across the Carolinas and beyond. The day before training camp. For the first time under Head Coach Frank Reich, the Panthers embark on their yearly pilgrimage to Spartanburg, South Carolina. Though it is not Reich’s first trip to Wofford, nor is it the first for former head coach Dom Capers.
Practice is set to start promptly Wednesday morning, July 26,2023. From then they have until Thursday, August 10, 2023, to take care of some of the more pressing points surrounding the team.
Training camp presents the first opportunity to see key starters in full speed this offseason. Specifically on the defensive side of the ball, as Brian Burns, Jaycee Horn and Donte Jackson, have all been kept on the sidelines, fielding various injuries.
With the defense in mind, a new staff brings a new scheme. A big part of this teams success depends on how players like Derrick Brown and Shaq Thompson can adjust to defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and his 3-4 scheme. It could become clear Scott Fitterer may have more work to do in free agency. Which is saying something, as the general manager had a field day in the beginning of the offseason.
It’s quite a roster on paper, and this will be the first taste as to how all of these new pieces gel together. If you can not make it down to Spartanburg, do not worry. The program Hard Knocks could also provide a glimpse as they follow the New York Jets, who just so happen to have joint practices scheduled with the Panthers on Wednesday, Aug. 9 and Thursday Aug. 10. All leading up to the first preseason game, featured quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the aforementioned Jets on Saturday, Aug. 12 at Bank of America Stadium.
